Plastic Waste — The Silent Cry of Nature

In May 2025, students of the 39th and 41st schools in Jambaskala participated in an environmental awareness program organized in cooperation with the World Aral Region Fund, Ekolog.uz, and the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan. Students living in the Aral region—on the border of desertification—wrote essays and stories based on their personal experiences about climate change. In this material, ecology is covered through the sincere words of Janil.

Plastic Waste — The Silent Cry of Nature

In the modern world, along with the development of industry and technology, the volume of waste is increasing sharply. In particular, the widespread use of plastic increases its impact on the environment and human health. According to the UN Environment Program, more than 430 million tons of plastic were produced in the world in 2023. At the same time, 50% of this production consists of single-use items, of which only 9% is recycled. The rest is mainly dumped in landfills or ends up directly in the environment. In recent years, it has been proven that plastic also affects the human body. In 2022, Dutch scientists discovered microplastics in human blood for the first time. Microplastics enter the body through air, water, and food, increasing the risk of cardiovascular, endocrine, and oncological diseases. They also negatively affect the hormonal balance and immune system.

International experience shows that many countries of the world are taking decisive measures against the plastic problem. For example, in 2017, Kenya banned plastic bags. As for the situation in Uzbekistan, in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Environmental Protection," a legal framework for waste management has been created. In accordance with Article 91 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility, a fine of up to 223,000 soums is provided for individuals for illegal dumping of waste. Since 2020, the SUE "Toza Hudud" has begun work on the collection and sorting of plastic waste, but the environmental culture of the population remains at a low level. A system for separate collection and recycling of plastic has not yet been established. Plastic waste has become a serious global environmental problem today.
