Buenos Aires bans loud fireworks

On New Year's Eve, the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires officially banned "noisy" types of fireworks throughout the city. The new decree, adopted on December 20, 2025, is aimed primarily at preventing loud fireworks and explosive fireworks.

Why was the ban imposed?

Any pyrotechnics that make noise (firecrackers, sparklers, explosive fireworks) were banned throughout the city.

This decision applies to so-called "unrestored pyrotechnic effects," that is, all types that can make noise and disturb those around them.

Why was this restriction introduced?
The city government cited the following main reasons:
Loud fireworks cause stress and health problems for children, adults, individuals on the autism spectrum, and animals.
Another goal of these measures is to improve the ecological situation and maintain a peaceful urban environment.
What fireworks are still allowed?
Only silent, visual light shows, i.e. types of pyrotechnics that make no or minimal noise, are permitted.
There are also exceptions to the use of pyrotechnics for necessary signaling or security forces in emergencies.
How will the new decision be implemented?
This measure will apply to all areas of the city, and users will be notified in advance and monitoring will be increased to ensure public safety.
