“EKOLOG” Public Association is a non-governmental, non-profit organization registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan on August 9, 2022, under Certificate No. 1034.

  9. Environmental legislation and policy advocacy;
  10. Monitoring and assessment of environmental risks;

  12. Volunteer engagement;
  13. Developing and advocating for new laws and reforms aimed at improving the environmental situation, including addressing climate change;
  14. Promoting sustainable development by integrating environmental, social, and economic dimensions to achieve harmony between people and nature.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of “EKOLOG” Public Association is to contribute to addressing environmental problems in the Republic of Uzbekistan, support government institutions in environmental protection, promote humane and environmentally responsible policies by national and local authorities, and contribute to increasing the environmental awareness and culture of the population.

In cooperation with the Youth Affairs Agency of Uzbekistan, the organization established the “Eco Volunteers” School. More than 300 eco-volunteers have received training and developed practical knowledge and skills, while the initiative has also created a platform for bringing environmental volunteers together.

In cooperation with the Central Council of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, “EKOLOG” regularly organizes plogging campaigns, combining physical activity with environmental clean-up activities.

As part of the nationwide “Yashil Makon” (“Green Space”) initiative aimed at increasing tree cover throughout Uzbekistan, tree-planting campaigns were organized on March 18, 2023, with 500 trees planted in Bukhara Region and 600 trees in Kashkadarya Region. The campaigns were conducted with the support of LUKOIL under the slogan “We Care for Nature.”

Environmental Journalism and Education

The head of “EKOLOG,” Nargis Kosimova, has authored a number of textbooks and educational manuals, including “Eco-Journalism,” “Water Use Issues in the Focus of Uzbek Mass Media,” “Global Climate Change and Journalism,” and “Uzbekistan’s Mass Media as Partners in Education for Sustainable Development.”

At the initiative of the director of “EKOLOG,” the subjects “Eco-Journalism” and “Eco-PR” were introduced into the educational curriculum of the Faculty of International Journalism at the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages in 2019 and, from 2020, into the curriculum of the University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan.

The organization’s qualified trainers regularly conduct environmental training sessions for the general public, women, youth, journalists and bloggers, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders.

Protection of Homeless Animals

“EKOLOG” also works to protect homeless animals and promote humane treatment of animals.

Through charity campaigns organized by the association, shelters for homeless animals have received approximately UZS 10 million in financial assistance. Based on appeals received through the organization’s hotline, more than 100 cats and dogs that had suffered cruelty or neglect have been rescued, provided with veterinary treatment, and subsequently placed with caring families.

The “Vafo” Shelter for Homeless Animals operates under “EKOLOG.” In Syrdarya Region, the organization also implements the “V Dobrye Ruchki” (“Into Caring Hands”) project, which supports the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of homeless animals.

Public Awareness and Media Campaigns

The organization has produced 10 social videos addressing important environmental issues, including:

  • saving drinking water;
  • proper waste disposal;
  • preventing illegal tree cutting and protecting trees.

“EKOLOG” uses media, educational activities, public campaigns, and digital communication to promote environmentally responsible behavior and strengthen public participation in environmental protection.

“Green School” Initiative

The “Green School” project was established under “EKOLOG” to develop environmental awareness and ecological culture among schoolchildren.

The project is currently implemented on a volunteer basis in Jizzakh and Kashkadarya regions, Samarkand Region, and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

As part of cooperation with the Committee on Religious Affairs, birdhouses were installed together with schoolchildren at the Zangiota pilgrimage site in Tashkent Region and the Sadr ibn Waqqos pilgrimage site in Gallaorol District of Jizzakh Region.

In 2025, an Eco Club was also launched at the University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan with the participation of students.

Environmental Lessons for Schoolchildren

The organization conducts educational sessions in schools under initiatives such as:

  • “Lessons of Kindness” (“Mehr Darslari”);
  • “There Is No Substitute for Water” (“Suvning Muqobili Yo‘q”);
  • “A Waste-Free World” (“Chiqindisiz Dunyo”).

These activities aim to enrich students’ knowledge of environmental protection and develop responsible attitudes toward nature.

The educational initiatives have reached 236 schools, 12 higher education institutions, and 10 private educational centers.

Gender and Climate Change

In April–June 2023, “EKOLOG,” together with the Center for Support of Civic Initiatives of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the “Qalb Nuri” Center for Social and Legal Support of Women and Their Families in Jizzakh Region, conducted a survey in Jizzakh Region and the Republic of Karakalpakstan to identify gender-based violence and related vulnerabilities emerging in the context of climate change.

Ekolog.uz Media Platform

The Ekolog.uz website began operating on December 22, 2014. On January 26, 2023, it was officially registered as a media website by the Agency for Information and Mass Communications under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, under Certificate No. 060322.

Ekolog.uz maintains Telegram channels in Uzbek, Russian, and English, as well as pages on X (Twitter), Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.

The website and its Telegram channels are focused on increasing the environmental culture of the population of Uzbekistan, informing audiences about environmental developments in Uzbekistan and around the world, and strengthening citizens’ environmental and legal awareness.

The platform’s overarching objective is to contribute to the protection of nature and to addressing increasingly urgent environmental challenges through accurate information, public awareness, environmental journalism, and civic engagement.

  1. Climate Action Network – Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (CAN EECCA) — an international network bringing together non-governmental organizations working to prevent the climate crisis and support adaptation to its impacts;
  2. Central Asia Regional Water Network (CAWaN) — an international NGO network focused on water-related issues in Central Asia;
  3. International Forest Coalition;
  4. National Movement for Combating Climate Change in Uzbekistan.

Through its environmental, educational, media, advocacy, volunteer, and animal protection initiatives, “EKOLOG” seeks to strengthen civil society participation in environmental decision-making and contribute to a greener, more resilient, and sustainable Uzbekistan.
