Religion and ecology

Today, in some places, cockfighting is presented as a competition, entertainment, or even a national tradition. Two birds are provoked into fighting, sometimes until they are injured and bleeding, while spectators watch. In some cases, people also place bets on the winner. However, the nature of this practice, its treatment in religious sources, and the question of animal welfare deserve serious consideration.
