Once roaming freely across the vast Kyzylkum Desert and the Ustyurt Plateau, the Asiatic cheetah can no longer be found in the wild in Uzbekistan. One of the fastest land mammals in the world disappeared from the country’s natural landscapes decades ago. Today, the last known population of the Asiatic cheetah in the wild survives in Iran. However, this rare subspecies remains at an extremely high risk of extinction.
