The ceremony was attended by Golibjon Kurbonov, Deputy Director of the Forestry Agency; Won Do-yeon, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan; Abdushukur Khamzayev, Head of the Uzbekistan Ecological Party faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis; KOICA experts; and representatives of relevant organizations and local authorities.

The complex, located in the Dongqorgon division of the Tashkent Specialized State Forestry Enterprise, covers a total area of 7 hectares. It features 14 modern smart greenhouses equipped with automated management systems and continuous indoor climate monitoring technologies.

These technologies will enable the cultivation of high-quality tree and shrub seedlings adapted to local climatic conditions, help conserve water resources, and reduce the need for manual labour in the production process. Growing seedlings in special containers will also make their transportation and planting easier, particularly in mountainous areas.

The total budget of the project, scheduled for implementation between 2024 and 2028, amounts to USD 7.7 million. Training seminars on seedling cultivation, plant grafting, and the introduction of modern agricultural technologies are also being organized within the framework of the project.

The new nurseries are expected to help supply forestry enterprises with high-quality planting materials, expand green spaces across the country, support forest establishment and restoration, and prevent desertification in arid regions.

For reference: During the first nine months of this year, forestry enterprises under the Forestry Agency collected 1,100 tonnes of tree and shrub seeds for forestry and greening activities. In addition, 101.6 million seedlings and saplings adapted to local soil and climatic conditions are being cultivated across an area of 1,035 hectares.
