This area, littered with garbage and abandoned, is one of the central parks in the city of Urgench. Earlier, official statements noted that Urgench would be the first "smart city" in Uzbekistan. The following photos were taken in the city center on December 29.
As we can see, the reality does not match the lofty statements. So, what kind of city do the authorities mean by "smart city"?

Residents of the city are expressing their dissatisfaction. They say that although the authorities are aware of the deplorable state of the central areas, no practical measures are being taken to eliminate the problem.

"Everyone knows about the devastation in the city center. But those in charge seem to be turning a blind eye to it," local residents say.
